The Vocal Technique and Interpretation of Sacred Music by J.S. Bach in Chinese Music Education Institutions, Using “Erfüllet, ihr himmlischen, göttlichen Flammen” as an Example

This article is dedicated to the vocal analysis of Johann Sebastian Bach’s aria “Erfüllet, ihr himmlischen, göttlichen Flammen”. The main focus is on the key challenges faced by students when performing this piece, including technical aspects of vocal performance, breath support, and the peculiarities of German pronunciation. The influence of these components on the development of students’ vocal skills is examined. The final part of the article highlights the pedagogical value of the aria and concludes with its significance in shaping musical perception, improving vocal technique, and enhancing the accuracy of German diction. The aim of the study is to develop a methodological approach that facilitates a deeper understanding and expressive interpretation of the piece during the learning process. The analysis is based on both scholarly sources in vocal pedagogy and the author’s practical experience working with students.
