Modern social processes determine the explanation of educational priorities - the search for conditions for effective cognitive development of preschool children is becoming increasingly important. The article, based on the study and analysis of psychological, pedagogical and methodological literature, examines the essence and features of the cognitive development of older preschoolers. In modern conditions, the need to use experimentation in preschool educational organizations is urgent, dictated by rapidly developing technological progress, and the need for an appropriate level of education for students. Experimentation is consistent with the above, because creates favorable conditions for the child’s cognitive development, his creative potential and the formation of prerequisites for educational activities. In this publication, the author draws attention to the fact that senior preschool age is the most important stage in the formation of cognitive culture and individual education. Children's experimentation is one of the effective means for the cognitive development of a child of senior preschool age. Since from birth a child behaves like a little experimenter, exploring the world around him, focusing on his own interest and curiosity. An important skill for a child is to independently search and find information, especially in the era of its abundance, when we have been captured by global informatization. Therefore, among various pedagogical tools, experimentation in this case comes to the fore, having enormous potential. In older preschool age, experimentation is the leading activity of the child, along with play. A significant difference between children's experimentation and adult experiments is its connection with play, as well as with the manipulation of objects, which serve as the most important ways for children to understand the world. The article examines the possibilities of experimentation in the cognitive development of older preschool children; the author came to the conclusion that experimentation plays an important role in the process of cognitive development of children of older preschool age, namely: it contributes to the development of cognitive processes (perception, thinking, representation, memory, attention), interests children, curiosity and cognitive motivation, and the formation of cognitive actions, ideas about the surrounding reality. The results of this study can be used in the practice of preschool educational organizations for the cognitive development of children of senior preschool age.
