Opportunities for musical and educational activities in the formation of an individual's ethnic identity

The article examines the problem associated with the trend towards a decline in the general musical culture of the Republic of Dagestan's population. A brief overview of the modern musical and cultural life of the republic is presented. The problems, challenges and prospects for the development of the region's musical culture are outlined. Attention is focused on the disunity of Dagestan society in assessing the importance of music and musical art in human life. The problem of preserving the ethno-cultural identity of the Dagestani peoples is brought up to date. Folk music culture is viewed not only as a historical “document” of national identity, but also as an intergenerational way of its preservation. The opportunities for the formation of an individual's ethnic identity through exposure to practical forms of musical interaction and co-creation, as well as through music education activities among broader social strata of the region, are analyzed. The music education activities are seen as an effective way of introducing the individual to the musical culture, forming on its basis ethnic musical consciousness as an integral component of the psychological structure of ethnic identity.
