Introduction. Recurrent urinary tract infections (RUTI) are one of the most common nosologies in the practice of a urologist. About half of all women will have at least one episode of urinary tract infection (UTI) during their lifetime. Antibiotic therapy remains the mainstay of treatment for UTI. The need to search for alternative options for the treatment and prevention of UTIs is dictated by the frequent use of antibacterial drugs. Most often they talk about the use of D-mannose and herbal remedies. The purpose of this literature review is to critically analyze clinical studies conducted to date that have examined the effectiveness and safety of D-mannose and herbal medicines for the prevention and treatment of RUTI.
