The Possibilities of Ch. Aitmatov's Portrait Descriptions to Convey Hidden Meaning

This article, using Chingiz Aitmatov's novella "Jamila," examines the ways in which portrait descriptions convey hidden meaning in fiction. It demonstrates that such descriptions serve a multifaceted artistic and aesthetic function. They serve to depict the characters' appearances and inner states of mind. Portrait descriptions allow us to uncover the cause-and-effect relationships of life events and recreate the holistic characteristics of the characters' ethnic environment. Furthermore, they contribute to the formation of an artistic image of an era and society as a whole.
