The authors present the results of a study of the correlation between the level of reading skill and the level of formation of conceptual thinking. The study involved 101 students of secondary schools in the city of Ulan-Ude. During the study a reading skill test by L.A. Yasyukova and separate subtests from the Amthauer test were conducted. The results were correlated using statistical methods. As a result, a statistically significant correlation was obtained between them. Based on this, recommendations were proposed for the development of reading skills and conceptual thinking. Indicators of the level of reading skill and the formation of conceptual thinking are recognized as interconnected. The need to create educational programs, sets of measures and methods for their development is indicated.
