Genre repertoire of literary criticism by V.A. Zhukovsky: dominants, dynamics, historical and cultural context

Statement of the problem. The article is devoted to a comprehensive analysis of the genre repertoire of literary criticism by V.A. Zhukovsky in the historical and cultural context. Review of scientific literature. Based on the material of the poet’s critical works and based on the theoretical works of B.F. Egorov and V.N. Krylov, the genre dominants of each of the periods of his critical activity are revealed: an aesthetic and philosophical synopsis (1800s), a problematic article and a ‘genre’ review (1810s), the author’s aesthetic manifesto and a review (1820-1830s), a theoretical treatise (1840s). The purpose of this article is a comprehensive analysis of the genre repertoire of literary criticism by V.A. Zhukovsky in its dynamics and taking into account the historical and cultural context. Theoretical and methodological approaches are based on the genre classification of literary criticism on several grounds. Research results. The developmental patterns of Zhukovsky’s genre preferences are shown: from the development of European aesthetic thought through the adaptation of modern critical forms to the creation of synthetic genres combining literary analysis with religious and philosophical reflections. Conclusions. It is concluded that the specificity of the genre system of criticism in the historical and cultural context of the epoch was determined by its educational mission, the tasks of cultural transfer, the deepening of religious and philosophical searches and polemics with the emerging socially oriented criticism.
