The paper raises the question of the need to study the classic proportions of the human body during the educational process at universities in the field of fine arts and design. The relevance of the study is due to the need to improve art education and increase the content of the educational process. The aim is to substantiate the importance of studying the classical canons for the formation of professional competencies of contemporary artists and designers. The tasks of a modern teacher of higher education are in the professional organization of the educational process based on the classical form of education, taking into account current trends that will contribute to the formation of competencies specified by the standard in future specialists. The authors come to the conclusion that it is necessary to stimulate the activity of students in the framework of not only lecture work, but also practical, orienting them towards a visual analysis of the classical proportions of a human figure. Consideration of the canons in this aspect is of great cognitive and practical importance in the formation of volumetric-spatial, creative thinking. The theory of figure proportions has always been interesting to artists. Therefore, not only anatomists, but also creators themselves were engaged in research related to absolute and relative sizes. Nowadays, a significant problem confronts the teacher from the first day of drawing lessons, such as an integrated approach to the study of theoretical canons and, most importantly, the application of the acquired skills by future artists and designers in practice.
