Ancient and modern Bukhara

This article is devoted to the fundamental changes in the ancient city of Bukhara after the independence of Uzbekistan, the transformation of the city into a center of science and culture, as well as a tourist zone.

One of the most ancient and eternal city in Central Asia is Bukhara. According to historical sources, Bukhara has great effect of world culture. It has owned 3 years old history. It was the centre of culture, knowledge from the ancient times till now. The description of this city spreads out over the world. As a result of archeological excavations, this city played important role for economics and culture. This city was the center of the trade when the period of increasing Great Silk Road and when Samanid’s dynasty ruled Bukhara centralized as the capital of the Islamic religion. After then they started to call “Bukharai Sharif”. Today also this name suitable for Bukhara.

After achieving independence, Bukhara reformed and following documents helped to begin new period for this city:

• ❖    About “Preparation for 2500 jubilee of Bukhara “ in 1996-year 3-January, The decision of The Ministry of Republic Uzbekistan;

• ❖    About “To spend weekends devoted to 2700 year jubilee of Bukhara and Khiva in Paris, the house of YUNESKO’s main staff” in 1997-year 24- March, decision of Prime Minister of Republic Uzbekistan;

• ❖    About “Organizing ceremonies devoted to 2700 year jubilee of Bukhara and Khiva” in 1997-year 1-august, The decision of The Ministry of Republic Uzbekistan;

• ❖    About “Making the center of memorable collection Bakhouddin Nakshband” in 2004-year 27- May, The decision of The Ministry of Republic Uzbekistan;

• ❖    About “Confirming the main plan of Bukhara city” in 2007 - year 22-January, decision of The Ministry of Republic Uzbekistan;

• ❖    About “Researching the cultural heritage till 2020 and preserve cultural monuments” in 2010 – year 23- March, decision of The Ministry of Republic Uzbekistan.

These decisions helped to set up notional traditions and preserve the ancient buildings to next generation. Because of its beautiful monuments Bukhara city was inserted YUNESKO’s international heritage register in 1993. The 2500 year jubilee was celebrated in 1997. President of Republic Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoev also is continuing to flourish. Traditional, cultural heritage are being saved by president of Republic Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoev. He tries to develop Islamic awareness of people. He visited Bukhara in 2017 year 10-march and he opened new page for Bukhara. He emphasized about buildings, projects and fulfillment of the plans will continue as noted in “Strategies of actions” which were adopted for 2017-2021. “There is a deep meaning to call Bukhara as eternal and ancient”- he said, “there are so many ancient monuments unique vive of nation, important traditions are alive. We should maintain them. Foreigners and historians are always interested in this city. We should use it. Tourism is developing day by day since there are ancient monuments, provided with comfortable and convenient environment and transport. To propagandize a faculty is opened the branch of Tashkent Islamic university in order to continue our well-known ancestors and learn deeply the history of the city. The faculty which was named as ”History of Islam and Source logy” is opened in Bukhara State University and accepted 20 students in this faculty in 2017-2018.

In addition, “Mir Arab” higher madrasah is opened in 6- September. It is according to the Constitution of Republic of Uzbekistan about “Freedom of conscience and religious organizations” and the continuation of “Strategies of actions” Likewise President of Republic Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoev signed a decision about to increase Bukhara city and Bukhara region’s touristic capability. According to this decision, they should develop capability of tourism and to give chance tourists to see all ancient buildings, to built modern hotels and supply with perfect transportation. To organize festivals such as “Silk and Spices”, “The day of city”, “Meals of East” and to make special web sites in order to spread out the honorable places of Bukhara.

The “Bukhara city day” was organized in order to supply with the motto of Bukhara is the pearl of east and it was 22 – October 2017. There were organized food festivals, clothes festivals, conferences and some exhibitions that day. Today the instruction about developing the system of tourism was made and according to this document 39 works were seen.

Nowadays, the system of tourism, health, ecology, sport, agriculture and ethnography are developing and some works are being done on it. The decision of Prime Minister of Republic of Uzbekistan about organizing a free touristic zone in Bukhara made a great opportunity to its development. The president of Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoev signed a decision about celebrating the birthdays of our well- known ancestors like Abdukholik Gijduvoniy’s jubilee in 2017 11- July, Nakshbandiy’s 700 year jubilee. According to this decision some actions were taken flourishing their place, using from their works and translating them into foreign languages and exc. In a nutshell, ancient and eternal Bukhara is still famous for its monuments, wealthy history and it also has added its contribution in the history of the world. To sum up, because of some decisions of President of Republic Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoev the Bukhara city is being beautiful and fabulous day by day. It is being real pearl of the east, Bukhara will continue its beauty, monuments and modern appearance. It will also attract the whole world with its historical and monumental exhibitions and appearances.
