В статье анализируются представления британских военных чинов, ответственных за умиротворение Горной Шотландии в первой половине XVIII в. Материал касается репрезентации, интерпретации и использования этнографической информации о мятежном крае в процессе его этнического картографирования. Риторические стратегии сочинений военных чинов и их цели, роль и последствия так же являются предметом анализа.
