The paper is an experimental study of decane dynamic viscosity with laminar flow through a smalldiameter tube with low pressure differences at its ends. The study assumes that liquid structure changes little during elementary viscous flow events. An increase in viscosity was observed with decreasing flow velocity gradient, indicating the presence of a supramolecular structure in the liquid. The results are consistent with data from an acoustic study of low-frequency viscoelastic relaxation of a homologous series of alkanes. The increase in viscosity at extremely low flow velocity gradients for decane and the low-frequency viscoelastic properties of a series of alkanes are explained using a cluster model of the liquid.
