How to “upgrade” the textbook of the English language: the text-based approach

The necessity of “upgrading” the textbook of the English language is substantiated. The results of the questionnaire of the 1st year students in University of Tyumen, dealing with the evaluation of the textbook “Speakout Pre-Intermediate”, are given. The strategies and technologies of the textbook’s “upgrade” are described. There are presented the examples of the tasks, developed on the basis of the texts of the textbook, their efficiency in teaching the English language is demonstrated.
