The article deals with the content of the mentoring work of the lecturers in Nizhny Novgorod teachers institute in the system of the professional training of the people’s teachers. There are considered the different forms of the organization of the mentoring work in the basic public school of the institute. There is given the historical evidence of the teachers’ intention to maintain the ties with the graduating students after the graduation of the institute.
