The article deals with the data of the comprehensive analysis of the results of the scientific studies in the general and special pedagogy and psychology, concerning the different aspects of the scientific and methodological support of the teaching process of the schoolchildren with the special educational needs at the lessons of the foreign language. The structured scientific and methodological support of the development of the foreign-language competence of the schoolchildren with the special educational needs is possibly used in the work with the children with the mental retardation.
