The positive dynamics of growth of alimentary-related diseases in the Russian Federation encourages food manufacturers to develop food products with added health benefits. The article provides a brief overview of regulatory documents, the scope of which extends to food products with added health benefits. The purpose of the work was to determine the critical points at the stage of confirming the compliance of specialized food products (SFP) with the stated properties. The subjects of comparison and expert assessment included research vocabulary and provisions enshrined in legislative and regulatory acts, when confirming the compliance of specialized food products with the stated properties. Currently, when confirming the compliance, food products with added health benefits are divided into «enriched» and «specialized». In order to prevent misleading consumers, the name of the food product indicated in the labeling must reliably characterize it and allow identifying it from other food products. When classifying specialized food products, the chemical composition of the food product and / or medical indications and / or metabolic principle can be used as criteria for distinguishing features. Information about all the distinctive features of specialized food products must be indicated on the packaging, and the results of studies of samples of such food products must be obtained in a certified testing laboratory.
