The basic steps of teaching the linguist students of written translation of fictional texts for children at primary stage are considered. There is described the scheme of translation analysis, there is underlined the significance of this kind of work. Some peculiarities and difficulties of translation of fictional literature are revealed. The examples of practical work at primary stage of teaching the written translation of simple poems of texts for children are given.
