Preparing livestock feed is of paramount importance. It largely determines feed palatability and digestibility, yield increase of each feed unit. Washing is one of the primary methods for preparing root crops. The paper is a research analysis of drum-type root crop washing process as a key aspect of an improved technical solution. The study considers the physicomechanical properties of processed root crops; characteristics of soil contaminants and their separation mechanisms; hydromechanics of the process in a drum washer; use of numerical methods for modeling processes in drum device and an analysis of numerical method applicability. A critical analysis of the existing studies revealed deficiencies in prior investigations that need to be eliminated in subsequent research.
