The problems associated with skin tumor today remain relevant not only in human medicine, but also in veterinary. This article presents a clinical case of a basal cell skin tumor (solid type) in a dog, describes the histological features of the tumor, its morphological features, which can be important diagnostic information in the veterinarian practice. Thus, the histopathology of a basal cell tumor of the solid type shows accumulations of basaloid (basal) cells with well-defined boundaries, forming a peripheral «palisade» of cells and one or more typical fissures. Such cracks are caused by the reduction of mucin during tissue fixation and staining. Central necrosis with eosinophilic, granular features, as well as mucin, may also be present. Under the new WHO classification system, most tumors that were previously described as basal cell tumors in dogs have been reclassified as trichoblastoma.
