Modern security issues in the global space associated with threats of a global and social nature have influenced the transformation of the academic discipline «Fundamentals of Security and Protection of the Homeland» (hereinafter - FSPP) in the general educationsystem. This transformation has led to a change in the target guidelines of the discipline aimed at forming a culture of life safety in students and developing personal qualities of citizenship and patriotism in fulfilling the constitutional duty to protect the Fatherland. On this basis, changes have been made to the content, forms and methods of teaching. In order to implement the updated discipline of OBZR, it is necessary to train students in the methodological and educational aspects, to form their skills in using interactive forms and methods of teaching. The purpose of the study is to determine the directions of transformation of training of students - future teachers for teaching OBZR. In the course of the study, an analysis of federal documents, psychological and pedagogical, scientific and methodological literature on the research problem was carried out, as well as diagnostics of the level of partial readiness of students for professional and pedagogical self-development in the implementation of the academic discipline of OBZR. The result of the study was the transformation of student preparation for the implementation of the updated academic discipline of OBZR in terms of content, interactive forms and innovative teaching methods that contribute to increased activity and motivation for its study.
