Application of the communicative method of teaching foreign languages in a non-linguistic university

The article is devoted to the peculiarities of the application of the communicative method of teaching foreign languages. The relevance of the competence-based approach to learning is emphasized in connection with the need for effective participation in intercultural communication. The main ideas of communicative linguistics defining the communicative method are summarized. The principles on which the communicative approach to teaching foreign languages is based are considered. The stages of conducting classes are highlighted. The effectiveness of interactive teaching methods providing practical orientation of language teaching is noted.
