Problems of Preparing Student Counsellors to Work with Children with Disabilities
The article describes the results of the student counsellors’ practice in the context of working with children with disabilities. The study is based on the outcomes of a survey of the students of Anton Chekhov Taganrog Institute who completed pedagogical practice in a children’s camp as counsellors. It is noted that the problem of working with children with disabilities in children’s camps is an important aspect of the modern educational process requiring a comprehensive analysis and a systematic approach. It is shown that the experience of interacting with children with disabilities has become a significant component of their teaching experience for the students, which can further contribute to their professional growth and development. The conclusion is formulated that this will demand the introduction of specialized courses and trainings aimed at developing the competencies that are necessary for successful and comfortable interaction with this category of children.
