Mastering a foreign language is one of the prerequisites for the development of professional growth of a modern highly qualified specialist. Using the latest computer programs in the learning process allows the teacher, by varying the forms of academic work with students, to improve the quality of learning material.
Guidelines for the use of the English Puzzle computer program are intended for teaching English to translators in the field of professional communication (5-7 academic semesters) through multimedia carriers. They offer a detailed description of the structure of the English Puzzle computer program and the progress of work on it.
The relevance of such a program is determined by the very idea of creating an interactive multimedia English course on optical media. The computer program "English Puzzle" is a unique multimedia educational and methodological complex that combines all the currently available teaching aids and allows you to go to a whole new level in teaching and teaching a foreign language.
The novelty of the program is due to the lack of complex computer programs on electronic media for students of the “Translator in the field of professional communication” department. Moreover, in the discipline “Practical course of a foreign language”, the bulk of domestic and foreign multimedia courses are more testing than educational.
The object of this computer program is modern English in its commonly used normative form, characteristic of native speakers in various communication situations, as well as a professionally-oriented version (for the corresponding specialty) of modern English.
The subject of the program is the basics of pronunciation and grammar, a neutral layer of common vocabulary, as well as professional vocabulary and units of speech etiquette, which are combined in a holistic teaching interactive electronic complex.
The goal of working with the English Puzzle program is to improve the perception and understanding skills of speech in English, which corresponds to the educational goal of a practical English course in the framework of vocational training for a graduate to receive additional qualifications as a translator in the field of professional communication.
The main goal of the program - to lay the foundations for understanding oral speech using sound recordings accompanying a multimedia program - is achieved by solving the following tasks:

- linguistic - students will improve their knowledge of the language system
necessary to master it practically. The volume of such knowledge varies depending on the stages of training in accordance with the curriculum in the discipline "Practical foreign language course";

- communicative - students develop the necessary skills in listening,
reading, speaking, writing and translating, i.e. in all five types of speech activity. Learning the types of speech activity is considered as a single interconnected process, because speech skills and abilities, formed at the initial stage, receive further development, improvement and enrichment.
Specific learning tasks using the English Puzzle program include:

- increasing the overall level of English proficiency;

- the formation of students' skills and abilities of normative pronunciation
and intonation of a foreign language;

- the formation and development of listening skills;

- activation (along with listening) of other types of speech activity: reading,
speaking, writing and translation;

- increase vocabulary;

- development of skills in working with dictionaries (explanatory dictionary
in English in the first place);

- intensive learning of vocabulary of the corresponding specialty;

- development of a flexible and effective system of conscious self-control.
The basic principle of work is the construction of phrases voiced by native English speakers from the proposed words. Repeated listening allows you to improve the perception and understanding of sounding speech, the use of additional program functions (memorizing words, working with an explanatory dictionary) - to expand the vocabulary of the student.
The English Puzzle program provides the learner with the ability to edit phrases if errors are found in the text using the hint system. In this program, it is possible to activate the mode of memorizing words, the individual list of which the learner must form himself (or with the help of the teacher). At the same time, the program allows the student to set the mode of repeating phrases for memorizing himself, depending on the level of language proficiency. With this program, the student can record his voice and compare the pronunciation with the original (by ear). The English Puzzle program works with the WordWeb and Lingvo dictionaries. “WordWeb” is an explanatory dictionary in English that has a large database of words and provides additional information about an unknown word: its synonyms, antonyms, usage patterns, word formation features, etc. The program works with the WordWeb dictionary automatically. At the end of the work, the student can edit the collected phrases, get acquainted with the quantitative results of his own work. The program makes it possible to conduct graphical statistics of learning outcomes for each student individually. The graphs will show the current student rating and the average number of answers per session with the program.
The importance of the student’s independent work in the process of mastering the language becomes important in this multimedia program. The didactic role of this computer program attracts particular attention, namely, teaching students the methods of self-education through multimedia media.
The program "English Puzzle" provides an opportunity for full-fledged independent improvement of the phonetic, grammatical and lexical skills of the English language. Due to the simplicity of the interface, interactivity, constant monitoring of knowledge and help when completing assignments from the computer, it is possible for the teacher to plan the individual lessons for each student, as well as to ensure the effective assimilation of teaching material outside the classroom, which students plan for independent studies.
During all stages of the practical course of the English language (5-7 academic semesters), at the discretion of the teacher, the degree of complexity of the lexical and grammatical composition and form of educational actions can be adjusted: from elementary to holistic acts of oral communication. A qualified teacher can check written assignments and carry out distance monitoring of training.
“English Puzzle”, therefore, combines the versatility and convenience of offline learning, the advantages of traditional forms of teaching and the progressiveness of the latest information technologies. Using this program allows the teacher to devote more time to correction, further development and consolidation of students' skills. There is the possibility of a more complete and thoughtful use of additional materials for in-depth, creative teaching of a foreign language in the classroom.
The English Puzzle program and guidelines for its use meet modern requirements for multimedia language courses and can be used both in the classroom and for independent work of students in the discipline "Practical Foreign (English) Language" in the framework of vocational training of a graduate to receive additional qualifications “Translator in the field of professional communication”. Also, this computer application can be an effective tool for use in the educational process under the guidance of a teacher: in higher education institutions, at language courses, when studying with a tutor, etc.
