Sacral and traditional numbers in folklore epos (based on the epos “Idegey”)

The sacral and traditional numbers in the epos “Idegey” and the other works of oral folk culture are studied. The numerals in the folklore texts go beyond the boundaries of the mathematical function and acquire the symbolic, mythopoetics and structure-forming meaning. The semantic and stylistic specific features of numerals, their functions in the creation of the rhythmic and compositional structure of epic narration and the parallels with the mythological and ceremonial presentations are considered. The basis on the works of leading researchers allows us to analyze the number symbolism as an important element of folklore thinking.
