Realia words in the fairytales of P. Bazhov: linguoculturogical aspect of translation

The article concerns reproducing the system of realia words as transmitters of the local Ural color in translation of the farytales by P. Bajov's fairytales into English. The relevance of the study is determined by the splash of interest in the framework of translation theory to the unique literary artefacts such as the Ural narratives representing mining industrial civilization. The idea of localized unique national communities known as “The Europes of regions” establishes itself as an alternative to studying globalization processes that endanger local cultural identities. For the purposes of this study, the concept of Werner Koller was found instrumental, The German translation theorist who views translation not merely as the contact of two languages but also of two cultures. Using dialectic nature of translation as a foundation, Koller identifies two main translation strategies («Übersetzungsmethoden»), one of which is aimed at the conservation of cultural (or, respectively, language peculiarities of the original text), and the other - at their modification. The analysis of P. Bajov's narratives has shown that culture- and language-oriented strategies correlate: thus, the translation focused on cultural specificity of the accepting culture inevitably leads to the employment of language means already existing in the target language, and vice versa. The modifying translation strategy that is based on the cultural and language elements of the text of translation was recognized as the dominant one. In the framework of the outlined translation strategies quite frequent translation techniques inevitably lead to the substantial fading of national and local coloring of narratives: first of all, a translator is bound to sacrifice ethnographic realia words which number prevails among the realia words of the original text.
