The article deals with the topicality of the notion of learning autonomy in modern educational conditions, considers its essence, and cites the interpretations of different scientists in this field. Besides, the article reveals differences between students' learning autonomy and independent work. It also defines the role of the teacher in the learning process that takes place in the conditions of learning autonomy.
