The proposed article discusses the issues of updating the concept of FOREIGNER on the example of the English language. The authors consider the concept as a representation of a fragment of the world or a part of such a fragment, which has a complex structure expressed by different groups of features implemented in various language ways and means, sharing the position of leading researchers regarding the definition of this concept. The conceptual feature is objectified in fixed and free forms of combinations of the corresponding linguistic units - representatives of the concept. The authors develop the semantic field of actualization of this concept based on the allocation of semantic modules as semantic fragments of reality. The actualization of the concept of FOREIGNER was considered on the material of the political migration discourse, namely the report published on the website of the Migration Observatory of the United Kingdom "Migrants in the UK: An Overview". This report is based on the data of the annual survey of the population of the United Kingdom and is provided with the aim of informing the public about the problem of migration. In the report, in addition to such nominees as a migrant, there were also other nominees: a non-citizen of the United Kingdom, born in the EU-2, EU-8, EU-14 and many others. Dictionaries of the English language were used to analyze and clarify the semantic scope of the concept actualizers. The work is carried out within the framework of migration linguistics and cognitive semantics, which is considered as a general theory of conceptualization and categorization, the theory of how a person perceives the world around him and how his experience of cognition is realized in the meanings of language expressions. Within the framework of this theory, a person as a cognizing subject, a carrier of cognition, is attributed an active role in the formation of the meanings of language units: a person forms meanings, and does not receive them in a ready-made form, as well as an active role in choosing language means of expression to describe a particular situation and in understanding the motives of this choice.
