Introduction: the role of non-profit organizations in Russia has been rising gradually, fostered by internal and external developments. However, the trend has failed to attract proper attention. Correcting the situation requires a detailed focus on the status and role-specific characteristics of non-profit organizations based on location and taking into consideration their subjectivity, structure, properties, and qualities.
