Morphological category of tense of a Russian verb in the structural and content aspect
Statement of the problem. It is known that the category of tense in the Russian verb is closely interconnected with the category of aspect. In this article, the category of tense is analyzed from the perspective of distinguishing between different levels of its existence: the level of abstract morphological forms (MF) and the level of specific word forms (SF). This approach reveals its more complex structural organization than the traditional analysis, which is presented in linguistic literature, focusing only on the level of specific word forms. The purpose of the study is to identify the quantitative disproportion in the category of tense, taking into account the level of abstracted morphological forms (MF) and the level of specific word forms (SF). Methodology (materials and methods). The initial conceptual basis for describing the inflectional morphological structure of the Russian language as a whole is the level‑by‑level analysis of its units proposed by A. V. Bondarko. Research results. The disproportion of the time category includes three MFs – non‑past, past, and future incomplete – and five SFs in which they are realized – SF of present time, future completed, future incomplete, past time, and bitemporal. There are no MFs of the present and future completed time; there are only SFs with such a meaning. Conclusions. The study reveals the internal and external interaction between the category of tense and aspect. In the first case, aspect participates in the formation of temporal meaning (these are the meanings of present and future completed tense); in the second case, aspect is expressed in parallel with the meaning of tense (past and future non‑completed). The classification and inflectional status of the category is proven.
