Despite the successes achieved in the treatment of arterial hypertension (AH), adequate control of blood pressure (BP) in the population is far from ideal. The lecture describes the four degrees of risk of cardiovascular complications caused by hypertension. Modern standards of drug and non-drug antihypertensive therapy are considered in detail. The target blood pressure levels that are recommended to be achieved in the treatment of patients with hypertension, in accordance with existing international recommendations, are given. The indications for the use of rational combined antihypertensive therapy are analyzed. Recommendations are given on the individual selection of drugs, depending on concomitant diseases.
