Prospects of development of agro-industrial complex of the Republic of Bashkortostan

ПЕРСПЕКТИВЫ РАЗВИТИЯ АГРОПРОМЫШЛЕННОГО КОМПЛЕКСА РЕСПУБЛИКИ БАШКОРТОСТАН

The most important sector of the economy of the Republic of Bashkortostan is the agro-industrial complex.

There are many factors that have a positive impact on the development of the sector. One of them is the geographical position of the republic. The territory of the Republic of Bashkortostan is 142 thousand sq.km, and takes the 27th place in the Russian Federation. The population of the Republic is 4.1 million, and occupies 7th place in the Russian Federation, including the rural population, 1.6 million. (40%) [3].

The Republic of Bashkortostan has the following transport infrastructure: 1) international airport of Ufa; 2) railroads: Trans-Siberian Railway of Samara-Ufa-Vladivostok; Kuibyshev railroad; Ufa – Orenburg; 3) Federal highways: Moscow – Samara – Ufa – Chelyabinsk; Moscow – Kazan – Ufa; the highway Ufa – Orenburg; 4) port zone "Agidel".

The Republic of Bashkortostan has considerable potential for agricultural production: the area of agricultural land in the region is 7.3 million hectares, of which arable 3.7 million hectares.

Agriculture in the Republic is the corn-livestock orientation. Wheat, rye, oats, barley are grown from cereal crops; sugar beet, sunflower – from industrial crops. The Republic also developed meat and dairy farming, meat- wool sheep, poultry, equine, kumys making and beekeeping. Bashkir honey is widely known in Russia [2].

By the beginning of 2009, there were 916 agricultural production organizations, 4214 peasant farms, 588 thousand personal subsidiary (Ancillary) farms operating in Bashkortostan [1]. At present, 800 agricultural enterprises, 6100 peasant (individual) farms and individual enterprises, 800 enterprises in the processing industries are operational [3].

The Republic of Bashkortostan occupies the first place in the Russian Federation for the production of milk – 1,8 million tons, the number of cattle – 1,1 million heads, production of commodity honey – 6 thousand tons; the second place in Russia for the production of closed-ground vegetables – 92,8 thousand tons; the third place in Russia for potato production – 1133 thousand tons [3].

There is a positive trend in gross agricultural output.

Thus, in agro-industrial complex of the Republic of Bashkortostan, a positive trend can be observed in attracting investors and investment resources to the region. The influence of external factors is: a good geographical location, favorable natural and climatic conditions for the development of all branches of agro-industrial complex, the developed transport infrastructure; and of internal factors is:: policy of authorities, the level of regional support of agrarian sector of the region.
