В статье в контексте современной историографии Первой мировой войны дается оценка монографии американского историка Г. Тунсталла “Blood on the Snow: The Carpathian Winter War of 1915” (Lawrence (Kansas), 2010). Монография анализируется и высоко оценивается прежде всего с точки зрения новизны источниковой базы. Г. Тунсталл выявил в военных архивах Австрии и Венгрии и впервые ввел в научный оборот документы, которые ранее не были известны историкам. Эти уникальные документы рассказывают об участии русской армии в зимней кампании 1915 г. в Карпатах, ее операциях против войск Австро-Венгерской империи. Большая ценность этих документов состоит в том, что они дают представление о разнообразных факторах, которые обеспечили превосходство русской армии над ее противниками на Восточном фронте зимой 1915 г.

The Russian army in the Carpathian winter campaign of 1915: the unknown documents and new estimates in the book by American historian Graydon A. Tunstall
This article evaluates, in the context of modern historiography of World War I, the book “Blood on the Snow: The Carpathian Winter War of 1915” (Lawrence (Kansas), 2010) by the American historian Graydon A. Tunstall. The author examines and appraises the publication as a novel resource. Graydon A. Tunstall discovered at the Austrian and Hungarian War Archives previously unknown documents which he used to introduce a new line of historical analysis. These unique materials tell the story of Russian Army’s involvement in the Carpathian Winter Campaign of 1915 and its actions against the troops of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. The great value of these documents lies in the fact that they paint a picture of the different factors that gave the Russian Army an advantage over its opponents on the Western Front in the winter of 1915.
