Natural non-metallic materials of inorganic nature were the first materials used by humans for making implements and it was actually the first stone axe that opened the technology era hundreds thousands years ago. The properties of mineral-based non-metallic materials are various. They include the hardest materials applied for metal processing by cutting (diamond, corundum, boron nitride, etc.) and relatively soft solid lubricating substances (graphite, molykote).
