Sky resort Mamison

Despite the fact that so many mountain slopes are located in Russia, Russians prefer foreign resorts to national ones. A significant growth in number of skiers and snowboarders has had no effect on the Russian skiing tourism. Thus to change the situation the construction of the year-around ski resort Mamison has been started.

«Mamison» is a wide mountain valley with convenient ski slopes; the extent of the canyon is about 25 km. This mountain complex is unique as it offers all the conditions for recreational year-round activity.

The initial focus of the project is creation of a world-class ski resort. It will provide citizens not just only with entertainments (delta paragliding, paragliding and jeeping, horse riding, hiking and walking, climbing skills, go rafting) but lots of facilities to improve health including treatment by means of mineral waters. Moreover it will give a chance to organize international winter sports competitions to attract tourists from foreign countries.

Basic features of the Mamison resort:

• •     Distance from the airport and railway station – 110 km.

• •     Total area – 570 km2.

• •      Resort settlement area – 205 ha.

• •      Resort traffic capacity – 30,000 people per day.

• •      Sleeping accommodations, total for 4 complexes – 27,622. hotels

[rooms] – 17,786; ΐapartments – 5,960; cottages – 3,876.

• •    Number of cableways of various kinds – 74.

• •     Length of cableways – 102 km.

• •     Mountain ski runs: length – 255 km; number of ski slopes – 211.

• •      Altitude above sea level: lower part of the resort – 1,940 metres;

higher part of the resort – 4,040 metres [1].

Investment expenses:

30 000 million rubles, including the 1 stage – 15 300 million rubles:

• •    basic infrastructure services – 3278,0 million rubles;

• •      alpine skiing elevators – 5000,0 million rubles;

• •     hotel complexes – 7000,0 million rubles.

Financing of the project:

The federal budget - 2953, 3 million rubles;

The regional budget - 310, 0 million rubles;

Extrabudgetary funds - 12014, 7 million rubles.

No doubt that the new regional tourist industry will benefit from the project. It is expected to attract up to five million visitors and provide 200,000 new jobs. The project will provide extensive opportunities for expanding the local tourism and recreation industry while boosting its investment attractiveness.
