The paper attempts to look back at what happened more than ten years ago, when the first, still imperfect methods of e-learning appeared on the threshold of the 21st century, but even then high hopes were pinned on it. The author cites the results of a comprehensive study of elearning practice in 39 countries, which was carried out by Professor Ugur Demiray and his team in 2010 at Anadolu University, Turkey, and on a comparative analysis shows the modern problems faced by humanity in 2020-21. The paper also provides a broad panorama of the development of UNESCO's ideas about a new humanism, the diversity of media cultures, the coexistence of different civilizations and the role of citizens' media literacy in these processes.
