During stress measurements by hydraulic fracturing, fractures are opened and induced in the near borehole stress field as a result of the inflation of a straddle-packer Such very small events are surprisingly enough information along with televiewer measurements of the packer position to determine the in situ pore pressure. It is described the theory that goes along with the new procedure, the developed evaluation scheme leading to results for the geothermal reservoir in Bad Urach as well as the equipment designed for this unique field test.

One of the approaches to intellectual technologies synthesis in training, developing new methods of training, proposed by professor L. A. Rastrigin was used. An exponential dependency of ignorance probability of a lexical unit upon the forgetting rate and time was taken as a trainer model.

Self-configuring genetic programming algorithm with the modified uniform crossover operator, that realizes a selective pressure on the recombination stage, is used for the automated integration of the computational intelligence technique ensembles. Ensemble members are the symbolic regression formulas, the artificial neural networks or their combination. They are also designed automatically with the self-configuring genetic programming algorithm. The comparative analysis of the approach performance is given on the benchmark and real world problems.

Language style matching and verbal intelligence

In this paper language style matching of speakers yielding different verbal intelligence was analyzed. The work is based on a corpus consisting of 100 descriptions of a short film (monologues), 56 discussions about the same topic (dialogues) and verbal intelligence scores of the test persons. According to the results, higher verbal intelligent speakers showed a greater degree of language style matching when describing the film and were able to better adapt to their dialogue partners compared to lower verbal intelligent participants.

Local search in bilinear two-person game

We consider an approach that allows reducing Nash equilibrium problem to a minimax problem for rather wide class of games using the so-called Nikaido-Isoda function. One can reformulate minimax problem as an optimization problem with nonconvex and implicitly defined objective function in general case. In other words, the set of Nash equilibria of the game is coincide with the set of global solutions of derived optimization problem. In present paper we investigate such an approach as applied to bilinear two-person game with quadratic loss functions and independent strategy spaces in view of an assumption that loss functions are strictly convex with respect to own players’ variables. In this case we suggest to replace “inner” optimization problem in minimax problem by Lagrange dual one. Such a way leads to presentation of the objective function as a difference of two convex functions (d.c-decomposition of the objective function). The very function in d.c-decomposition, that forms concave part, is defined implicitly as well as the objective function. We propose a method for linearization of concave term. That allows using the well-known local search method for d.c-functions, where the next iteration point is a solution of convex optimization problem with the objective function, which gained from initial objective by linearization of concave term in d.c-decomposition. Since the concerned problem is nonconvex, we offer to use local search in combination with multistart. The results of computational experiment are provided in the paper.

Relationship between orbital order and the formation of the spontaneous magnetic moment, lattice constant, correlation function of orbital and spin moments between nearest neighbors have been investigated in terms of the continuous Potts model for set of electron-phonon parameters and spin-phonon interactions. A change in the permittivity and orbital correlation functions in the external magnetic field has been found.

Modal filter simulation with losses

Protection of spacecraft on-board equipment against electromagnetic interferences is an actual problem. Much attention is paid to the susceptibility to the excitation of powerful ultra short impulses (nanosecond and subnanosecond impulses). The use of known protection devices to solve this problem is hampered by a number of conflicting require- ments. For example, low mass, high reliability, long life. In addition, ultrashort pulses are able to penetrate into various radio-electronic equipment by passing the instrument shields. Protection potential using the devices based on modal filtering is well known. To simulate these devices, rigorous electro-dynamic approach is applied, which requires high computational costs. Approximate quasi-static approach allows to significantly reduce computational costs. The quasi- static simulation was used in this paper, loss record in conductors was realized by means of exact calculation of the matrix of per-unit-length resistances through a change in the matrix of the per-unit-length coefficients of electromag- netic induction when scaling the cross section of conductors. The effect of losses on the shape and amplitude of the pulses at the output of the modal filter is shown. A comparison of simulation results with electrodynamic and quasi- static approaches taking into account losses is presented. Good consistency is obtained. Quasi-static simulation with losses took much less time than the electrodynamic simulation. Analysis of the results suggests that software-based approaches can be used for modal filter simulation.

A design of controlled diffractive optical elements based on electro-optic effect is suggested. The influence of the electro-optical crystal orientation, the direction of light wave propagation and the electric field distribution on the characteristics of controlled diffractive optical elements is considered. The efficiency indicators of controlled diffraction elements structure and material are proposed and their values for the basic elements are calculated.

In this paper we apply multi-objective optimization approach to find a Pareto optimal ensemble of neural network classifiers, which is used for solving the emotion recognition problem. Pareto set of neural networks is found by optimizing two conflicting criteria: maximizing emotion classification rate and minimizing the number of neural network neurons. We implemented several ensemble fusion schemes - voting, averaging class probabilities and adding auxiliary meta-classification layer. The number of audio and video features extracted from raw video sequences for analysis is quite large, so we also applied multi-objective approach in order to find the optimal subset of features. The optimized criteria in this case are maximizing classification rate and minimizing the number of features. The multi-objective approach to neural network parameter optimization and to feature selection was compared to the classic single-objective optimization approach on several datasets. According to experimental results, multi-objective approach to neural net optimization provided on average 7.1 % higher emotion classification rate than single-objective optimization. Applying multi-objective approach to feature selection as well helped to improve the classification rate by 2.8 % compared to single-objective approach, by 5.4 % compared to using principal components analysis, and by 13.9 % compared to not using dimensionality reduction at all. Taking into account the obtained results, we suggest using multi-objective approach to machine learning algorithms optimization and feature selection in further research connected with emotion recognition problem and other complex classification tasks.
