The present era that we are living in is experiencing a global crisis due to a pandemic outbreak of COVID-19, which has affected millions around the world. The pandemic crisis has not only affected the physical forms of life but has also brought about a drastic change in the previously followed economic and social patterns. At present, there are some norms that we are obliged to follow such as self-isolation, social distancing and restriction of several activities which has created a lot of confusion resulting in a huge hit on the socioeconomic scenarios. The COVID-19 pandemic has not only brought about fears in the life of the individuals but has also created a panic due to which there has been an increasing demand for medicine and consumable products as individuals have resorted to stockpiling medical supplies and consumer products, resulting in a huge socio-economic disparity ‘with some getting all while the others get none.’. The global scenarios and the symptoms of the COVID-19 have paved a way for a comparison of the COVID-19 pandemic with the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918. Several undertakings are trying to implement strategies and successive methods that were learned in the past to restore normalcy in the socioeconomic conditions by providing individuals with various forms of information to create awareness about COVID-19 and to encourage the implementation of precautionary methods for the same. This paper will help the readers to understand the similarities between the effects of COVID-19 and the Spanish flu on India and will suggest the precautionary measures that must be taken to tackle the global pandemically induced mishap.

Edge healthcare system is recognized as an acceptable paradigm for resolving this problem. The IoMT is divided into two sub-networks - intraWBANs and beyond-WBANs - based on the physical bonds of WBANs. Given the features of the healthcare systems, medical emergency, AoI and power depreciation are the prices of MUs. Intra-WBANs, a cooperative game shapes the wireless channel resource allocation problem. The Nash negotiation solution is used to get the unique optimum point in Pareto. MUs are regarded reasonable and perhaps egoistic in non-WBANs. Another non-cooperative activity is therefore developed to reduce overall system costs. The assessments of the performance of the system-wide cost and of the number of MUs gaining from edge computer systems are done to illustrate the success of our solution. Finally, for further effort, numerous barriers to research and open questions are highlighted.

A new point on ECG: point l as identifier of rapid and slow ejection phases boundary

A new point on ECG: point l as identifier of rapid and slow ejection phases boundary

Rudenko Sergey M.

Статья научная

Aims Description of rapid and slow ejection phases in the cardiac cycle. Materials and methods The theory of cardiac cycle phase analysis and mathematical equations of hemodynamics were used in the paper. The equations were employed to verify the balance of the phase-related diastolic and systolic blood volumes reliant on phase durations, and the identification of boundaries of the cardiac cycle phases on the ECG. Further, synchronous ECG & RHEO recording was used. Aortic blood filling was studied in the stated phases. Results The location of boundaries of rapid and slow ejection phases is traced. The boundaries did not have a precise definition before. Thus, a new symbol, the L point, on the ECG has been introduced to identify the boundaries of phases S - L, L - j. Conclusion Previously the location of point j on the ECG was impossible to identify. It was considered as a hypothermic wave on the ECG that could not always be traced. Point j was defined as the j (Osborn) wave. Thereby the location of boundaries of rapid and slow ejection phases, where volumetric parameters were equal to the stroke volume, was not accurately identified. The research enabled detecting the ECG recording criteria of the rapid and slow ejection phases. The results of the present research are published for the first time.

Khan F., Bhattacharya S.

Статья научная

Various researches have established that diversity with inclusion yields a competitive advantage and promotes innovation in workplaces. Gender diversity and retention of top women talent, however, remains a problem. This study explored the reasons leading to the lower representation of women in the tech industry and the impact of the diversity and inclusion initiatives on the lives of working women. Purposive sampling has been used to select four women and two men working in tech, and in-depth interviews over the telephone were conducted for a phenomenological study. Analysis of data was carried out by Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The results highlight common issues women face in the tech industry and compare it to their male counterparts’ experiences. Women highlight unconscious biases, internal and external obstacles, lack of women mentors at senior positions, and family restrictions. This paper gives a deeper understanding of the lived experience of entry-level men and women currently working in the tech industry, which will help identify gaps in our current approach towards inclusivity and the way forward for these practices for employees in STEM fields. The study is significant for organizations struggling to maintain gender balance in the tech industry despite implementing several diversity and inclusion practices. It will help the organizations understand a relatively new term, including inclusion and adopting specific measures to create an inclusive work environment.

Munusamy G., Shanmugam R.

Статья научная

Background. Cardiovascular disease is a global emerging problem and its risk starts in children and adolescents. Adolescents have modifiable cardiovascular risk factors that have been found globally, and nationally, and early intervention programs may be able to lower these risks for both individuals and populations. Accurate risk factor evaluation at the individual level is crucial in this situation for the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Objective. The study aimed to investigate cardiovascular disease knowledge and to determine physical activity, and dietary patterns among school-going adolescents in Arakkonam, Tamil Nadu, India. Methods. A school-based cross-sectional survey was conducted to assess cardiovascular disease knowledge among 500 adolescents aged 10-18 from public schools. The study period was from September 2021 to February 2022. The measurement taken on anthropometrics such as height, weight, body mass index, and bio-physiological measurement as blood pressure, structured questionnaire assessed for knowledge, dietary questionnaire assessed previous week food consumption which the investigator developed, and physical activity standard questionnaire assessed the past week’s exercise level. Data were analyzed using IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 20. Results. The mean study population age was 13.7±1.7, 53% were boys, and 47% were girls. Factors like age 16-18 years (p=0.01), site of residence from urban (p=0.001), education of teenagers (p=0.01), and family history of cardiovascular disease (p=0.001) are significantly correlated with the level of knowledge score, with better-educated adolescents having fair knowledge score than others. Level of knowledge score and demographic traits are associated with physical activity, such as 16 to 18 years (p=0.03), living in an urban region (p=0.03), being in a joint household (p=0.001), adolescents who are at higher secondary (p=0.02), and having a family history contribute more to cardiovascular disease (p=0.001) than other variables. Mean days eating diets were egg (4.18±2.27), vegetables (3.92±0.93), milk products (3.85±1.87), fried foods (3.75±1.25), toffees, and chocolates (3.35±1.81) all had higher percentages of consumed foods than others. Conclusion: There is a risk of cardiovascular disease higher among adolescents. Still a need for school-based primordial preventive educational approaches needed to improve to curb this burden.

A study of perceptions about healthy food advertised in select urban areas in India

A study of perceptions about healthy food advertised in select urban areas in India

Rishika Mathur, Pushkar Phadtare

Статья научная

The percentage of the obese and overweight population in India has alarmingly increased over the last few years. It is described as a global epidemic that needs to be controlled. The two main reasons for obesity and overweight are lack of physical activity and lack of balanced diet. Childhood Obesity leads to many chronic diseases in adulthood if not cured. With the lifestyle change, physical activity has gradually decreased; therefore, a balanced diet is necessary to fight obesity. Obesity can also be controlled among the youth so that it is not carried forward in adulthood. Consequently, it is imperative to know what makes them buy products that claim to be healthy. Advertisers use the central or peripheral route of advertising to endorse the products and add labels as heuristic cues to help buyers make a healthy choice. A questionnaire that was given to the sample to understand their perception of food products that claim to be healthy indicated that the influence of celebrity brand endorsers varies with categories of food products. It also indicated that all labels do not influence the buyer. The buyers who claimed to check nutrient facts of the products also perceived the products to be healthy. Government guidelines have been established for nutritional claims made by the advertisers, but more information needs to be given to the buyers so that they can make an informed decision.

INTRODUCTION: Hemodialysis is a continuous treatment that might result in problems such as hypotension, leg muscle cramps, disequilibrium syndrome, and nausea. The most effective treatment is passive stretching of the shortened muscle. Stretching has numerous health benefits, including increasing stamina, relaxing the body and mind, improving focus and concentration, and lowering the chance of injury. OBJECTIVE: The goals of this study were to determine the severity of leg muscle cramps in Hemodialysis patients before and after intradialytic stretching exercises, to assess the effectiveness of intradialytic stretching exercises on leg muscle cramps in Hemodialysis patients, and to link the severity of leg muscle cramps with selected demographic variables following intradialytic stretching exercises. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Qualitative research approach was conducted at Saveetha Medical College and Hospital by using quasi experimental research design, the Sample size was 30 patients with leg muscle cramps undergoing Hemodialysis by using Purposive sampling technique. The muscle cramp questionnaire scale was created to determine the severity of leg muscle cramps before and after Hemodialysis. Pain Scores ranged from 0 to 10 on a numerical scale. Before the individuals were given the intradialytic stretching exercise, demographic data, clinical variables and muscle cramp status were measured as a pre-test. Then, every day after the intervention, the posttest muscle cramp was measured. RESULTS: The demographic and clinical variables data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The majority of the patients 17(56.7%) reported no pain during the post-test. There was no correlation between the severity of leg muscle cramping and any of the demographic variables. Data were categorized and analysed using descriptive (mean, percentage, and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (independent paired t test’, chi-square analysis). CONCLUSION: This study showed that regular stretching exercises on legs during the hemodialysis can help alleviate the leg muscle cramps.

Abnormalities in natural light regimen as trigger of tumor growth

Vinogradova I.A., Anisimov V.N.

Статья

One of the regulators of physiological rhythm patterns in humans and animals is the change in the circadian cycle implying the day-night alternation. Exposure to light at night has been found to be directly related to serious behavioral problems, as well as to the health state and the development of malignant neoplasms. Epidemiological studies show an increased risk of breast and colon cancer in night shift workers and a reduced cancer risk found in blind women. Currently, a fairly large number of the population is exposed to light pollution (light at night). Therefore experimental studies, revealing the role of abnormalities in the natural light regime in carcinogenesis, become topical.
