The article discusses some existing methods of minimizing distress of laboratory animals during the experiment. The author describes the principles of treating experimental subjects. Special attention is paid to the correct ways of fixing animals. In conclusion, the importance of using the methods described above is substantiated.

Students vs teacher: through the image looking glass

The article is devoted to the peculiarities of student’s perception and assessment of the image of the faculty member. The paper examines the main characteristics of the teacher's personality, as well as the dynamics of changes in the components of the educator’s image throughout the entire study period. The results of the study showed that university students tend to change their beliefs about the image of the teacher.

The article is devoted to the issues of considering such linguistic phenomena as conceptual metaphor, polysemy and modality in the English language from the standpoint of cognitive linguistics. The work analyzes the influence of cognitive human experience on the speed of memorization and the depth of assimilation of foreign language lexical units, reveals the concept of “conceptual metaphor”. The author substantiates the need to study a foreign language not only as a sign system, but also as a system of understanding the world through the history and culture of representatives of different countries.

Tales of mystical love in the poems of the Persian poet Farid Ad-Din ‘Attar

One of the greatest Persian Sufi poets of the late 12th-early 13th centuries, Farid ad-Din ‘Attar (died c. 617/1220 or 632/1234) is the author of many mystical mathnavi poems, such as “Asrar-nameh” (“The Book of Secrets”), “The Mantiq al-tair” (“Language of the Birds”), “Ilahi-nameh” (“The Divine Book”), and “Musibat-nameh” (“The Book of Suffering”). One of the poet’s major accomplishments are poems about mystical love, whose heroes are famous Sufi sheikhs, historical figures, heroes from the Middle and Near Eastern literary tradition, as well as lesser-known characters. ‘Attar’s stories illustrate various aspects of the mystics’ religious love for God.

The article is devoted to the study of psychological characteristics of people with eating disorders. The aim of the study is to research the relationship between emotional instability and the occurrence of behavioral syndromes associated with eating disorders using the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS-16), Loces 24, Food Addiction Scale. The study involved N = 470 respondents (F=60%, M= 40%) aged from 18 to 25 years old. The methodological basis of the study consisted of scientific works of both Russian and foreign authors in the field of eating pathology.

Tattoo or taboo? The social stigma of tattoos

The paper analyzes the characteristics of tattoo perception in the society based on the description of the students’ attitudes to tattooing and piercing. Based on earlier empirical studies related to the study of tattoo perception ( Shannon-Missal L., Sidoti E., Paolini G., Tringalii G., Camacho J., Timming A.), a survey was created consisting of 23 questions (14 questions were intended for people without tattoos and 9 items were designed for people with body art). The study involved N=131 respondents (M=67, F=64) aged from 15 to 25 years old.

The application of neural network for cybersecurity

Over the past few years, the number of cyber attacks has increased dramatically. Currently, not only government organizations and business companies are attacked by hackers, but many Internet users. Recent studies have shown that machine learning and analytics can predict potential attacks pretty accurate. This article contains the results of the analysis of attacks from 2017 to 2018. The authors also describe several ways of protection by using neural networks and machine learning algorithms as a promising solution to the problem.

The attitudes of Russian citizens toward the childfree subculture

The paper is devoted to the childfree phenomenon, its history and nature in various cultures. The study deals with the social attitude of Russian citizens towards the Childfree phenomenon based on the research of the scholars at Kuban State University, attended by N=247 respondents (M=45, F=202). The participants were presented with a questionnaire “Your Attitude to Childfree Subculture” consisting of 11 questions to determine the respondents’ basic understanding of the childfree, their views on childless / childfree families, positive or negative opinions of parenting as well as their motives, goals and preferences in life. The results of the study showed that Russian citizens do not adhere to this ideology, but they are loyal to their proponents.
