Language learning and testing through gamification strategy

COVID 19 has transformed everything, without restricting the field of education and the way of language learning and assessment. Technology has transfigured almost all walks of life. The pandemic has changed the trend of testing language learning from traditional to web-based platforms. The purpose of language testing is to evaluate learners’ proficiency. The present study attempts to investigate the use of gamification on web-based platforms in language learning and assessment. The objective of the study is to employ online games on a variety of web-based platforms for language learning and testing Gamification has evolved considerably for the last few years due to the prevailing situation in the world. Gamification is the selection of game aspects for non-game purposes (Werbach & Hunter, 2012) to promote gamified testing via web-based platforms. The sixty professional engineering students formed the sample for the study. As part of the study, the students’ questionnaires were administered to obtain the data from the participants. The findings discovered that the language learning and testing become fun, motivating and less terrifying for the learners. Thus, it is advocated to adopt gamification in language learning and testing to enhance motivation and increase students’ learning experience in an educational context.

Cet article s'intéresse aux enjeux du numérique et du haut débit dans le développement local en Algérie, en particulier en milieu rural. À partir d'une enquête de perception menée auprès de 22 maires de la wilaya de Bejaïa (2017-2021). Il interroge le rôle des technologies de l'information et de la communication (TIC) dans le désenclavement numérique des territoires. L'étude mobilise une approche théorique combinant la diffusion de l'innovation (Rogers, 2003) et l'approche par les capabilités (Sen, 1999), afin de comprendre les dynamiques d'appropriation des TIC par les élus locaux. L'analyse des données met en évidence des disparités dans les priorités, les usages et les attentes, selon le statut des communes, leur taille et leur niveau d’équipement. Les résultats révèlent que, bien que les TIC ne figurent pas parmi les premières urgences locales, elles sont progressivement intégrées dans les visions d’aménagement du territoire.

Sur son cadrage théorique et ses finalités socio-didactiques, la recherche-action en didactique des langues, en Algérie, a ses raisons de s’interroger sur son devenir et son potentiel de développement aux raisons épistémologiques { facettes politique et institutionnelle. Pour ce faire, notre contribution s’attache, dans un premier temps, { présenter la notion de recherche-action et examiner ses principes et ses constitutions dans le domaine de la didactique des langues. Dans un second, elle propose de faire un retour sur certains obstacles et difficultés que rencontre aujourd’hui cette intervention pragmatique en la discipline, dans le contexte algérien. Nous aborderons successivement les problèmes qui lui sont propres et spécifiques excédant son champ. Notre approche critique, sans prétendre aboutir { des solutions concrètes, a l’ambition de contribuer { dessiner des balises pour une action collective au sein du champ.

LeafLens: Detect Plant Disease Before They Spread

LeafLens is an intelligent plant disease detection system designed to assist farmers and agriculturists in identifying plant diseases efficiently and accurately. Leveraging the power of deep learning, the system employs a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architecture trained on a comprehensive dataset of diseased and healthy leaf images. The application streamlines the diagnosis process by analyzing images of plant leaves and providing precise predictions about the disease type. The backend is developed using Python and PyTorch, ensuring robust model performance and scalability. The system integrates image preprocessing techniques such as resizing, cropping, and normalization to ensure uniform input to the model. The frontend is designed to be user-friendly, allowing users to upload leaf images seamlessly. Real-time inference capabilities provide instant feedback, displaying the disease classification alongside recommendations for treatment. LeafLens also incorporates features like data visualization for training and validation losses, accuracy tracking, and detailed performance metrics, enabling continuous improvement of the model. The system's framework supports scalability, allowing integration into mobile and web platforms for broader accessibility. By offering a reliable, efficient, and cost-effective solution, LeafLens aims to revolutionize agricultural disease management, promoting healthier crops and sustainable farming practices.

Learning in a global cross-cultural work environment: refining the tools

New cross-cultural work settings are emerging as a result of globalisation. As a consequence, workers no longer operate inside the confines of their country cultures, but rather across cultures all across the world. The globalisation issue has spawned a growing amount of management literature that emphasises the rising necessity to prepare for such cross-cultural work situations. Foreign work assignments, often known as the 'expatriate experience,' are an example of one of the most intensive cross-cultural encounters. The purpose of this work is to investigate how expatriate adaptation happens in a cross-cultural context via the perspective of experiential learning. The example of expats working in an American firm's wholly owned subsidiary in India is examined in this paper. The findings of the study expand beyond the scope of the original study and provide valuable insights into the subject of organisational learning and knowledge management.

Legal Framework for the Protection of Marine Biodiversity in Algeria: Challenges and Perspectives

This research paper examines and assesses the adequacy and effectiveness of Algerian national legisla-tion in protecting marine biodiversity, which is increasingly threatened by human activities and natural factors. In response to these growing threats, legislative interventions have become imperative to pre-serve marine ecosystems and ensure environmental sustainability. In alignment with national policy ob-jectives, the Algerian legislator has enacted several legal instruments that address the protection of ma-rine biodiversity. This study critically analyzes the scope, strengths, and limitations of these legislative frameworks, with a particular focus on their implementation and compatibility with international envi-ronmental standards. Marine biodiversity has emerged as one of the most pressing issues of our time, drawing increasing atten-tion from scientists, environmental experts, and legal scholars alike. It is recognized as a fundamental pillar of sustainable development across both developed and developing nations. Today, marine biodi-versity faces a range of threats whose effects are becoming alarmingly evident across ecosystems. Among the most severe of these threats are marine pollution caused by human activities and biological invasions in marine environments.

Legal Liability of Real Estate Developers in Blueprint Sales Contracts under Algerian Law

The Algerian state strives to alleviate the housing crisis by implementing new urban planning schemes and advanced techniques, notably by enacting laws to regulate and manage the real estate sector. As part of this effort, it has introduced several modern Real Estate Promotion Law methods to regulate the contractual relationship between the real estate developer and the subscriber. Chief among these is the off-plan sales contract, under which the Algerian legislator holds the real estate developer fully legally accountable, imposing legal sanctions upon them. The developer's liability is highlighted on two fronts: civil liability in the civil context and criminal liability in the penal context, both triggered by a breach of contractual obligations stipulated in the agreement.

With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, artificial intelligence has undergone rapid development, resulting in increasing transformations in human life due to the evolution of the digital world. This technology can disrupt the balance of the social environment, thereby influencing the behaviours of individuals and society as a whole. Consequently, new legal challenges concerning privacy, security, and legal liability have emerged. These challenges have prompted states to strive to develop legislative frameworks that ensure a balance between encouraging technological advancement and addressing the associated risks. This is achieved by establishing legal rules that govern the use of artificial intelligence, enabling the benefits to be harnessed, the drawbacks to be mitigated, and the protection of electronic contractual transactions and users' privacy across digital platforms to be preserved.

Legal Protection to Reduce Child Labor in Algerian Legislation

Child labor is one of the most serious and complex issues facing societies worldwide. According to the latest report from the International Labor Organization (ILO) in 2012, approximately 215 million children worldwide are engaged in various forms of labor. Based on this, international organizations have called for legal measures and necessary actions to curb child labor. It is important to note that international law requires specific bodies and institutions to ensure the enforcement of legal provisions, just as in national laws. Consequently, several international organizations are actively involved in combating child labor on the ground. Algeria is no exception to this issue, as it has ratified numerous international conventions and agreements against child labor, advocating for the protection of children's rights as guaranteed by both national and international laws. This commitment is reflected in Algeria’s domestic laws, where the Algerian legislator has aligned national legislation with international standards to provide a robust legal framework protecting minors. This is evident in Law No. 90/11 on labor relations, which includes legal provisions aimed at deterring any violations of children's constitutionally guaranteed rights in Algeria.

Legal Regulations for the Integrity of Electoral Campaigns in Algerian legislation

When presenting their electoral programs, candidates may rely on advertising and fin uncial means, which may affect the integrity and credibility of this process. Therefore, we wondered about the legal mechanisms that guarantee equality between candidates and their credibility derecting the electoral to establish trasparency in the electoral campaign. We concluded that the Algerian legislator intervened to organize the electoral propaganda phase by setting a st of conditions and mechanisms to establish transparency and equality betwwen condidates at this stage are subject to an arsenal of legal texts, the latest which is Order N°21-01 it includes. The organic law related to elections and the texts impementing it while approving deterrent aspect in the event of violation of these texts.

Les critères démographiques jouent un rôle central dans la définition de la pauvreté et de la richesse selon l'indice de bien-être et l'indice multidimensionnel de pauvreté (IMP). Ces indices évaluent des facteurs tels que l'âge, la taille des ménages, le niveau d'éducation, le statut d'emploi, la santé, et l'accès aux services essentiels comme l'eau potable ou l'électricité. L'IMP, en particulier, va au-del{ du revenu pour inclure des privations liées { la santé, { l'éducation et au niveau de vie. In this article, one of the famous Syrian poets of the 20th century, Nizar Qabbani, describes the processes taking place in the Arab world and in the intense political life of the Arabs. In his political poem " Drawing Lesson", the poet tries to show his son the external enemies of his country and criticize the tyranny of the ruling party, as well as their consent to foreign invasion . In this article one of the famous Syrian poets of XX centuries Nizar Qabbani describes processes going on in the arab world and intense political life of arabs. In his political poem called “ A Lesson In Drawing ” poet tries to show the foreign enemies of his country to his son and critisize tyranny of the ruling party as well as their agreement with the foreign invasion.

This study aimed to assess the level of perceived mobbing in the workplace among university teaching staff in the Department of Psychology. Using a descriptive approach to suit the study’s objectives, the researcher employed a validated, ready made questionnaire comprising 34 items across five dimensions: obstruction of self realization, obstruction of relationships, damage to reputation, damage to the quality of professional life, and damage to health. The tool was administered to a randomly selected sample of 29 participants. The results indicated that the staff experiences a moderate overall level of mobbing, with the highest perception reported in the dimension of damage to reputation, while other dimensions such as obstruction of self realization, obstruction of relationships, damage to professional life quality, and health showed moderate levels.

This study examines the levels of competitive behavior among players in the First Regional Division football leagues of Batna and Constantine, with a particular focus on the fear of repeated sports injuries. The research investigates how prior sports injuries impact players’ competitive behavior and whether factors such as player experience, playing position, and frequency of injury influence these behaviors. Data were collected through a series of surveys and statistical analysis, revealing that players with a history of injury exhibited lower levels of competitive behavior compared to their injury-free counterparts. Additionally, less experienced players and those who play as attackers were found to display a more pronounced decline in competitive behavior. The study highlights the importance of injury prevention, psychological support, and appropriate rehabilitation for players to maintain their competitive edge. The findings emphasize the need for tailored interventions to support players in recovering from sports injuries and minimizing the impact on their performance and behavior on the field.

Literature is a form of human expression, in which all emotions, thoughts, concerns and ideas are gathered, expressed in the most refined ways of "speech" or "writing", since from this standpoint it is the sum of "oral" or "written" effects: in other words, it is a language that carries within it an aesthetic and artistic value, and we can go further and say: it is the art that carries within it an expressive model of beauty..., and this model can only be ideal. This beauty and this idealism are exactly what prompts us to respond to literature through the manifestation of feeling and intentions, since the latter are considered intentions and implicit messages conveyed by the sender (the author or sender of the message) to the recipient (or receiver of the message), through this "coded message", or "written text", which can be folded (folded meaning), generated and assembled, and then reconstructed anew, and "in a different style" as the French thinker and deconstructor Jacques Derrida acknowledges.

Linguistic and Social Practices in Naming Places: The Case of Economic Institutions

In Algeria, the languages employed in the naming of places vary depending on the nature of the location, its geographic setting, or the linguistic identity of the targeted demographic. National languages—Arabic and Amazigh—are frequently used, alongside foreign languages such as French, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, and in-creasingly English as a global lingua franca. In some instances, a single place may bear a compound name composed of multiple languages. This study seeks to explore the onomastic practices surrounding naming con-ventions, focusing specifically on the naming of private-sector economic institutions. Drawing on a database of private enterprise names in Algiers, the analysis focuses on the languages used in these names, the orthographic forms they take, and how such naming is interpreted through local social interactions. The paper investigates the relationship between the economic institution as a commercial phenomenon and the sociocultural dynam-ics embedded in naming practices. It considers the spatiotemporal continuity of transmitted identity in its cul-tural, historical, and linguistic dimensions—dimensions that are closely tied to place and environment. The aim is to reveal the significance of linguistic plurality in naming, and to underscore the referential value of these names. Algiers was selected as a research site due to the richness and linguistic diversity of its naming practices, which offer insights into the sociological interpretations of commercial names. This work also attempts to un-cover the patterns that shape Algeria‘s auditory landscape through naming processes, and to examine the struc-turing elements of the Algerian imaginary as they appear in the public circulation of economic institution names across different historical strata experienced by the Algerian urban space. Accordingly, the central re-search problem is framed by the following questions: What are the social and cultural dimensions inherent in the language of economic institution names in Algiers? And how is linguistic plurality linked to local spatial contexts and affiliations?

Liquid Modernity: A Critical-Interpretive Model and Alternative to the Concept of Postmodernism

The study explores Zygmunt Bauman's concept of liquid modernity as a critical and interpretive model for reading con-temporary reality, and as an alternative to the concept of postmodernism, through analyzing the radical transformations that have affected identities, relationships, institutions, and social and political systems in light of globalization and tech-nology. The study relied on an induction of Bauman's works represented in the Liquidity series, highlighting his meth-odological approach that links social and philosophical analysis, and his elaboration on how liquid modernity produces a fragile reality dominated by uncertainty. This is achieved by dismantling all solid constants and replacing them with tem-porary relationships and fluid values. Through this model, the study demonstrated how liquidity transforms individuals into isolated entities, burdened with the responsibility of adapting to constant change, given the declining roles of the state, its policies, and society and its institutions. The study thus presents a comprehensive vision of the concept's role as a tool for understanding the complexities of the modern era and its impact on individual and collective structures. The paper also recommended integrating this concept into academic curricula and promoting research into mechanisms for achieving psychological and social stability in light of rapid transformations.

Littératie numérique et appropriation de l’écrit académique chez les étudiants algériens en FLE

Nous étudions dans ce travail comment des étudiants algériens de Licence FLE, évoluant en contexte plurilingue, s’approprient l’écrit académique. Nous comparons deux groupes (L1 et L3) selon quatre dimensions : affective, axiologique, conceptuelle et praxéologique. Les résultats révèlent un passage d’une forte anxiété à une approche plus autonome et valorisée, grâce notamment à un enseignement méthodique et à l’usage d’outils numériques. La littératie numérique, en offrant des ressources variées (correcteurs, plateformes collaboratives), contribue à développer confiance et stratégies de rédaction. Nous concluons sur la nécessité d’un accompagnement didactique global intégrant pleinement ces ressources pour soutenir l’apprentissage de l’écrit.
