Blended learning options in post pandemic

The article dwells on the problem of foreign language blended learning technology in the post-pandemic teaching. The purpose of the article is to explain the possibilities of blended learning models in a full-time format in the non-linguistic educational environment of a higher education organization. Blended learning is described as a technology positively affecting the foreign-language communicative competence development. The article reveals the problems of implementing a relatively new form of education, both on the part of a teacher and on the part of a student; the reasons for shifting from the classroom activities to mixed learning are justified. The authors summarize their own experience of using blended learning technology in English classes, demonstrate the advantages of individual models at different stages of working with learning material.

Comparative analysis of language games in English and Russian advertising

The article is dedicated the study of communication and the language of the media. However communications in the field of advertising fully influence the communication processes of people in the community, support and develop “two-way communication between producers and consumers, industrial enterprises and government agencies, as well as community leaders.” As well as the information about an individual product advertisement which is effective only when the form and content “mobilize”, as you can imagine, caused by the reaction or designers do, this is facilitated by techniques developed by advertising. Thus, my main concern of this study is due to the increasing role of advertising as a type of promotion in the life of modern society, the expansion of the scope of functioning and the emergence of new types of advertising; the need, in connection with the foregoing, a comprehensive comparative analysis of the English and Russian advertising slogans.

Evaluative interpretation of events by actional verbs with the meaning of destruction of an object

All events of the world around us are reflected in human speech. The choice of lexical and semantic means helps the speaker to express his attitude to the event. Due to unique semantic properties, a verb reveals various aspects of the action - its type, method, instrument (tool), object. The article analyzes the ways of evaluative interpretation of the event by actional verbs with the meaning of destruction of an animate object. The main components of the evaluation interpretation of the destruction event are the object of destruction and its quantitative characteristics, method, intensity of the action, purpose, and instrument (tool) of destruction. The article presents examples of the use of actional verbs with the meaning of destruction of an animate object in the modern English language.

Gamification as a way of organizing foreign language teaching at higher education institutions

The article addresses the problem of gamification advent, illustrated by the example of computer educational games, for foreign language teaching in higher education institutions. The purpose of the article is to present the possibilities of applying computer games in a non-linguistic educational organization of higher education. The authors describe the gamification of teaching process as a technology that positively affects the development of foreign language communicative competence of students. The article reveals the advantages and problems of implementing the considered approach to educational process, both on the part of the teacher and on the part of the students. The authors describe their own experience of using computer games in English classes, demonstrate the advantages of some game templates for language skill training.

Language game in modern Russian television media texts: typology and implementation

The presented article has determined the forms of Language-game usage and its varieties according to the levels of language (phonetic, word-formation, morphological, lexical and syntactical) and has outlined their key expressive functions in modern TV media-texts in order to attract and retain the attention of audience, as well as identified linguistic problems of language game usage in media-texts to prevent the problems of decoding and stereotyping of speech behaviors of the journalists. as a result of the detailed analysis of the given examples the article reveals that contemporary TV journalistic discourse influences the strategies and tactics of self-presentation used by the addressee of TV discourse in the system of mass media and becomes one of the major causes of transformation and change of the linguocultural type of the Russian linguistic and cultural community.

Lexical-semantic fields in the texts of the American patriotic song

The article discusses the definitions of the term “Lexical-semantic field” given by different authors and produces a brief description of them. It also provides theoretical information on text units with patriotic semantics. The practical part of the article examines how the lexical and semantic fields are reflected in the texts of American patriotic songs. The detailed analysis of lexical and semantic units is carried out, presented on examples of 10 patriotic songs, and the functions they carry. The collection of songs “All American Patriotic Songbook” and “American Patriotic Songs” were selected for this study.

Linguistic model for analysis of manipulative factoid

The problem of distortion of actuality in the media discourse is considered. Particular attention is paid to the manipulative factoids. The types of manipulative effects were taken into account, namely, manipulation with perception and manipulation with behavior of a recipient. Fact-forming principles in constructing factoids have been established. The author considers them as a basis for a linguistic model for their analysis. Components of this model have been proposed, i.e., the factoid’s relevance for the actuality; factoid’s speech markers of actuality; elements of fiction and their communicative purposes; and significance of the information for the addressee and its speech markers.

Linguistic plurality of languages in Russian education system

This article is a conceptual piece reviewing and problematizing various perspectives to language education in Russia with a particular attention paid to the case of Tatar language. A general overview of the existing literature will be presented highlighting the situation with the minority language in Russia, comparing and contrasting it with the English language education. After providing the background of English and minority language instruction in Russia, the authors zoom in on the case of Tatarstan, to explore the workings of the discourses on identity and education in a multilingual region, where teaching of English goes along with the teaching of national (Russian) and regional (Tatar) languages. Lastly, the discussion and conclusion summarize the current vision of the interaction between Tatar, Russian, and English languages. It also proposes directions to further exploit the topic in order to serve the needs of multilingual students in a wide range of similar multilingual contexts, to seek ways towards maintaining the plurality of languages and strengthening the linguistic diversity of the world.

Religious and military terms as a part of a vertical context in modern Northern Irish novels

The article investigates the role of a vertical context in modern Irish prose. It is suggested that the main ideas of the novels cannot be fully interpreted without historical and cultural background information about Ireland and Northern Ireland. These pieces of information are contained in the categories of a vertical context. Military and religious terms have been distinguished and analyzed as a part of a vertical context. The analysis has revealed that military and religious lexical units help the authors to create a unique artistic spatial background connected with the Northern Ireland conflict (“the Troubles”).

Structure of lexical and semantic field “evil”

The article describes lexical semantic field “Evil” on the material of English adjectives. Using the methods of definitional and contextual analysis allows us to state that lexical semantic field “Evil” has all the characteristic features of a lexical semantic field - hierarchical structure, blurred boundaries and specificity of its elements for each language. Adjectives of lexical semantic field “Evil” express characteristics of a person and his emotional state, maliciousness of actions, absence of positive qualities (pity, mercy, kindness, sensitivity to other people’s feelings, understanding), evaluation of people, phenomena or circumstances. On the basis of the conducted research close connection of this field with philosophical and religious aspects is revealed, as well as symbolism of its elements, tendency to a wide combination of its elements with objects, which are atypical for their semantics and, as a result, to obtaining evaluative meaning.

Studying employers’ requirements: a way to increase intrinsic motivation of students

The study of foreign languages is an integral part of the learning process in any higher educational institution. Despite students’ uncertainty about the need and further applicability of foreign language knowledge, recruitment companies assure that specialists with an average or high level of foreign language competence are more in demand in the labour market and have a better salary already at the stage of employment. These facts should be communicated to students, especially those unwilling to learn a foreign language. Viewed as a requirement of employers and a competitive advantage for finding a better job, foreign languages will be more appreciated by students. Moreover, intrinsic motivation will appear in addition to the necessity to pass an exam.

The role and importance of social work in overcoming global social cataclysms has been updated. The key risk factors that have a direct impact on the psychological health and well-being of people employed in the field of social services are being investigated, among which, first: work pressure; pressure from the family and the immediate environment; interpersonal stress; social pressure. The data of a survey conducted to assess the impact of financial and psychological support of social workers from the labor collective on their morale and psychological well-being are presented. The survey showed that those social workers who in the past had the experience of seeking financial help and support from their colleagues, formal or informal organizations, trade unions, and received it, have a statistically significantly lower rate of emotional exhaustion than those social workers who, if necessary, they apply for financial support only to members of their family - spouse, relatives. A high statistical significance of differences in the studied parameters of psychological health and well-being among Chinese social workers was revealed, who prefer to receive moral support from the work team and from the family environment. The Chinese experience shows that the psychological health support system for social workers, guided by the model of humanism and cognitive-behavioral therapy, helps to reduce the workload of staff, and, consequently, increase the confidence of recipients of social services in recovery, improve cognitive functions and behavior of patients, and their successful psychosocial rehabilitation. Examples of tools for financial and moral support of social workers in the conditions of the labor collective in modern China are given. Recommendations are formulated for improving the model of financial and moral support for social workers, considering the Chinese experience.

The study of monologues in W. Shakespeare's tragedies

Three types of monologues are studied in the tragedies of W. Shakespeare: plot-problematic (or intriguing), plot-directing (or instructive) and plot-final (or summarizing). Monologues are considered in the ratio of theatrical speech with the external and internal speech of the characters. Their specific features and orientation are analyzed, a detailed description is given.

Речевой жанр «Кулинарная рассылка» одновременно представляет собой особую форму структурирования и организации текстов пищевой тематики и базовую единицу интернет-коммуникации в кулинарной сфере общения, обеспечивая тем самым упорядоченность виртуального дискурса. Рассмотрены специфика и речевое оформление жанрообразующих признаков речевого жанра «Кулинарная рассылка»: его коммуникативная цель, амбивалентный образ автора, образ адресата, образ будущего, диктумное содержание, лексическое и грамматическое воплощение речевого жанра. Актуальность исследования обусловлена недостаточной степенью изученности новых жанров речевого общения в коммуникативной среде Интернета как важнейшей среде существования современной культуры.
