A distributed e-health management model with edge computing in healthcare framework

A distributed e-health management model with edge computing in healthcare framework

Majumder D., Kumar S.M.

Статья научная

Edge healthcare system is recognized as an acceptable paradigm for resolving this problem. The IoMT is divided into two sub-networks - intraWBANs and beyond-WBANs - based on the physical bonds of WBANs. Given the features of the healthcare systems, medical emergency, AoI and power depreciation are the prices of MUs. Intra-WBANs, a cooperative game shapes the wireless channel resource allocation problem. The Nash negotiation solution is used to get the unique optimum point in Pareto. MUs are regarded reasonable and perhaps egoistic in non-WBANs. Another non-cooperative activity is therefore developed to reduce overall system costs. The assessments of the performance of the system-wide cost and of the number of MUs gaining from edge computer systems are done to illustrate the success of our solution. Finally, for further effort, numerous barriers to research and open questions are highlighted.

A phenomenological study to understand gender diversity and inclusion in the tech industry

Khan F., Bhattacharya S.

Статья научная

Various researches have established that diversity with inclusion yields a competitive advantage and promotes innovation in workplaces. Gender diversity and retention of top women talent, however, remains a problem. This study explored the reasons leading to the lower representation of women in the tech industry and the impact of the diversity and inclusion initiatives on the lives of working women. Purposive sampling has been used to select four women and two men working in tech, and in-depth interviews over the telephone were conducted for a phenomenological study. Analysis of data was carried out by Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The results highlight common issues women face in the tech industry and compare it to their male counterparts’ experiences. Women highlight unconscious biases, internal and external obstacles, lack of women mentors at senior positions, and family restrictions. This paper gives a deeper understanding of the lived experience of entry-level men and women currently working in the tech industry, which will help identify gaps in our current approach towards inclusivity and the way forward for these practices for employees in STEM fields. The study is significant for organizations struggling to maintain gender balance in the tech industry despite implementing several diversity and inclusion practices. It will help the organizations understand a relatively new term, including inclusion and adopting specific measures to create an inclusive work environment.

A school-based survey among adolescents on dietary pattern, exercise, and knowledge of cardiovascular risk factors (ADEK) study

Munusamy G., Shanmugam R.

Статья научная

Background. Cardiovascular disease is a global emerging problem and its risk starts in children and adolescents. Adolescents have modifiable cardiovascular risk factors that have been found globally, and nationally, and early intervention programs may be able to lower these risks for both individuals and populations. Accurate risk factor evaluation at the individual level is crucial in this situation for the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Objective. The study aimed to investigate cardiovascular disease knowledge and to determine physical activity, and dietary patterns among school-going adolescents in Arakkonam, Tamil Nadu, India. Methods. A school-based cross-sectional survey was conducted to assess cardiovascular disease knowledge among 500 adolescents aged 10-18 from public schools. The study period was from September 2021 to February 2022. The measurement taken on anthropometrics such as height, weight, body mass index, and bio-physiological measurement as blood pressure, structured questionnaire assessed for knowledge, dietary questionnaire assessed previous week food consumption which the investigator developed, and physical activity standard questionnaire assessed the past week’s exercise level. Data were analyzed using IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 20. Results. The mean study population age was 13.7±1.7, 53% were boys, and 47% were girls. Factors like age 16-18 years (p=0.01), site of residence from urban (p=0.001), education of teenagers (p=0.01), and family history of cardiovascular disease (p=0.001) are significantly correlated with the level of knowledge score, with better-educated adolescents having fair knowledge score than others. Level of knowledge score and demographic traits are associated with physical activity, such as 16 to 18 years (p=0.03), living in an urban region (p=0.03), being in a joint household (p=0.001), adolescents who are at higher secondary (p=0.02), and having a family history contribute more to cardiovascular disease (p=0.001) than other variables. Mean days eating diets were egg (4.18±2.27), vegetables (3.92±0.93), milk products (3.85±1.87), fried foods (3.75±1.25), toffees, and chocolates (3.35±1.81) all had higher percentages of consumed foods than others. Conclusion: There is a risk of cardiovascular disease higher among adolescents. Still a need for school-based primordial preventive educational approaches needed to improve to curb this burden.

INTRODUCTION: Hemodialysis is a continuous treatment that might result in problems such as hypotension, leg muscle cramps, disequilibrium syndrome, and nausea. The most effective treatment is passive stretching of the shortened muscle. Stretching has numerous health benefits, including increasing stamina, relaxing the body and mind, improving focus and concentration, and lowering the chance of injury. OBJECTIVE: The goals of this study were to determine the severity of leg muscle cramps in Hemodialysis patients before and after intradialytic stretching exercises, to assess the effectiveness of intradialytic stretching exercises on leg muscle cramps in Hemodialysis patients, and to link the severity of leg muscle cramps with selected demographic variables following intradialytic stretching exercises. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Qualitative research approach was conducted at Saveetha Medical College and Hospital by using quasi experimental research design, the Sample size was 30 patients with leg muscle cramps undergoing Hemodialysis by using Purposive sampling technique. The muscle cramp questionnaire scale was created to determine the severity of leg muscle cramps before and after Hemodialysis. Pain Scores ranged from 0 to 10 on a numerical scale. Before the individuals were given the intradialytic stretching exercise, demographic data, clinical variables and muscle cramp status were measured as a pre-test. Then, every day after the intervention, the posttest muscle cramp was measured. RESULTS: The demographic and clinical variables data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The majority of the patients 17(56.7%) reported no pain during the post-test. There was no correlation between the severity of leg muscle cramping and any of the demographic variables. Data were categorized and analysed using descriptive (mean, percentage, and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (independent paired t test’, chi-square analysis). CONCLUSION: This study showed that regular stretching exercises on legs during the hemodialysis can help alleviate the leg muscle cramps.

Unilateral oophorectomy (UOE) of female rats caused severe stress with an increase in the duration of the non-reproductive period (NRP) - the metestrus and diestrus phases, and a shortening of the reproductive period (RP) - the proestrus and estrus phases in the estrus cycle (a symptom of hormonal deficiency). 5 weeks after UOE, the signs of stress persisted: a decrease in the ratio of lymphocytes to the neutrophilic leukocytes in the peripheral blood and the weight ratio of thymus to the adrenal glands, as well as a decrease in the activity of succinate dehydrogenase, which is determined cytobiochemically in peripheral blood cells. A two-week administration of a succinate-containing composition with B vitamins (SCCV) to control and UOE rats increased the ratio of lymphocytes to neutrophils and weight ratio of the thymus to adrenal glands above the intact level - a sign of the “activation” state according to Garkavi and Kvakina and restored the ratio of NRP/RP. At the same time, a significant increase in SDH activity was found in animal peripheral blood lymphocytes. The study demonstrates the possibility to reverse severe stress state to the “activation” state with the help of metabolic therapy containing the combination of SCC and B-Vit.

At the current stage of medical science development there is significant knowledge about various disorders in the tumor process (expression of oncogenes and cytokines, factors of apoptosis, drug resistance, angiogenesis, deficiency of immunoreactivity, etc.). Many of the identified features of the tumor cell are trying to be used as targets for anticancer therapy. However, it is problematic to consider these numerous “details” of the characteristics of a tumor cell as targets for anticancer therapy. This is due to the fact that they do not have a key or independent significance in the appearance of a tumor cell, although they can work in experimental animal models under certain conditions and with prolonged therapy, which at times has little relation to humans

Статья научная

This article analyzes age-related risk factors that affect the population health. Risk factors that contribute to poor health are those that increase the likelihood of getting sick or injured. Risk factors are often presented individually, but it is confirmed that they are often interrelated in practice. For example, physical inactivity will lead to weight gain, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol over time. Together, they significantly increase the chance of developing chronic heart and other diseases, and the older a person is, the more various factors impact his health. The study aims to identify age-related risk factors affecting the morbidity of the population. The research was carried out using theoretical methods: the study of scientific articles, literature on the topic, and practical methods: observation and generalization. As a result, it was revealed what risk factors affect the population’s morbidity, the form and degree of their influence on humans, and methods for reducing the influence of these factors were proposed.

Aims To overcome numerous contradictions in the knowledge of the blood transportation, a hypothesis was supposed asserting the swirling pattern of blood flow in the heart and main vessels which resembles tornado-like flows and which is widespread in nature. These flows can be exhaustively described by the exact solutions of the nonstationary hydrodynamic Navier-Stokes equations and the continuity equations for the class of viscous swirling flows offered by Kiknadze - Krasnov. Materials and methods Using morphometric studies of human and canine left ventricular casts and Multislice Computed Tomography it has been shown that the trabeculae in the ventricular cavity are oriented along the streamlines of the tornado-like flow of appropriate dimension. Moreover, this principle covers both the diastolic trabeculae of the inlet part of the left ventricle and the systolic trabeculae of the outlet part of the left ventricle. Results It is concluded that the main trabeculae function consists in the structural organization of the intraventricular tornado-like swirling flow of Kiknadze – Krasnov type. Conclusion The hydrodynamic analysis of the blood flow laws is indispensable for the development of new diagnostics criteria in cardiology, cardiac surgery optimization, the design of new implantable and paracorporal devices contacting with blood flow and mathematical and physical modeling of circulation.

Статья научная

Autotransplantation of a free flap of the gracilis muscle is currently actively used in reconstructive surgery for persistent prosoplegia, injuries of the brachial plexus, for plastic closure of defects in the upper lip, and in the treatment of pelvic sepsis. This study provides important information about the anatomical features of the gracilis muscle and its neurovascular bundle, which are highly variable. The study of the anatomical and topographic features of this fine thigh muscle was carried out on a sectional study of 25 corpses of both sexes, 50 lower limbs. The present study demonstrates that the median value of the total length of m. Gracilis, the length of its muscular part, as well as the length of the tendon were 452.25 (439.7; 462.0); 225.3(208.1;239.0); 230.5 (213.0; 244.4) mm, respectively. The number of vascular pedicles included in m. Gracilis, ranged from 1 to 5. In 86% of the cases, the deep femoral artery formed the dominant vascular pedicle, and in 14% of cases, it was the medial circumflex artery. Small secondary vascular pedicles originated from the descending genicular artery or the anterior branch of the obturator arter: from the basin of the internal iliac artery. The length of the main feeding artery varied from 76 to 134 mm, the median value was 100.5(90;110) mm, and its diameter ranged from 1.4 to 2.1 mm (M = 1.9(1.8;2, 0) mm. The innervation of the fine muscle of the thigh was carried out by the anterior branch of the obturator nerve, which in 82% of the cases was represented by a single trunk; less often a loose type of structure was observed. The proper nerve was located at a distance of 108.5 (96; 117) mm from the origin of the muscle; its diameter was 2.1 (1.9; 2.2) mm. Knowledge of the topographic and anatomical relationships of the neurovascular bundle with the surrounding formations, variants of its individual anatomical variability are the key to successful reconstructive surgery.
